It’s nearly spring — time to get your garden back into shape! But before you can embark on your next outdoor chore, you’ll need to make sure your tools and equipment are in top form.

Maintenance Tips

From the biggest mower to the smallest chainsaw, STIHL products allow you to get the job done quick. But if you invest in a quality gardening tool or piece of equipment, it’s important that you perform a few simple tasks to look after them appropriately.

Proper upkeep will not only prolong the life of your STIHL equipment, but save you money in the long-run. This means you should learn how to clean, store and maintain each tool.

Here are a few easy tips to help out:

  • Always clean your equipment after use to prevent a buildup of grass, dust and debris. Make sure your petrol-powered tools have cooled down before you start cleaning.
  • Clean your petrol-powered machines with a soft brush and warm soapy water. A damp cloth should be sufficient for battery-powered or electrical tools. Be sure the equipment is dry before storing.
  • Never use a high pressure cleaner on STIHL products of any kind. This can result in serious damage or embrittlement, and lead to costly repairs.
  • Whenever you’re planning to store any petrol-powered equipment for several months (as you may have done with your mower during winter), move to a well-ventilated area and empty the fuel tank. Clean it, and dispose of the fuel correctly.
  • Plus, if you’re storing your chainsaw for more than three months, remove the chain and guide bar, clean them, and spray them with a protective oil or corrosion inhibitor to prevent rust.
  • Always store your equipment in a safe place. It should be dry, well-ventilated, dust-free, and protected from the sun and weather. It’s often a good idea to keep them in a lockable room. STIHL Shop Geebung offers a range of carry bags and storage cases to protect your equipment.
  • Any blades (mowers, chainsaws, grass trimmers and so on) should be sharpened annually, and all metal parts kept well lubricated.

Maintaining your STIHL equipment is a necessary and relatively simple requirement. But if you’re unsure what to do, don’t have the time, or are faced with a more serious mechanical repair need, come and see STIHL Shop Geebung’s Service & Repair team.
